Archive Audio

About this archive

We are in the process of preparing lots more interviews from the early days of LensWork as well as audio of workshops Brooks has recorded over the last several decades. We will be making them available here as they are ready. In this LensWork Online audio archive, we present recordings and excerpts from these interviews and workshops. Recordings have been converted to downloadable MP3 files. This is a unique opportunity to hear some of photography's great masters speak about their craft with the passion and clarity that is only available by hearing them "live" via these archive recordings.

The Project

The existing archive of audio recordings in Brooks' possession approaches 500 cassettes. The current challenge is to convert these files to digital MP3 archives and then to post them here. It's an "ongoing" project that may take some years to complete. Check back from time to time for new additions and news.

Do you have any recordings?

In fact, we'd love to see this grow to a more universal archive. If you have audio recordings that you've made of photographers you think the LensWork readers might be interested in, we'd love to add them to this archive. (We can convert them from tape to MP3 for you, too.) Drop us an email and let's discuss it!

LensWork Interview with Chip Hooper, April 1999

Chip Hooper
1962-2016

We'll miss Chip Hooper, but we'll enjoy the results of his creative vision in his work. I can think of no better way to celebrate his life than by sharing this audio interview from April 1999, published in the LensWork Multimedia Library.

Dick Hedges, David Best, and Brooks Jensen - A Conversation About Photography, Part 2

"In 1986, I visited Seattle for an evening of print sharing and conversation with two new photographic friends — David Grant Best and Dick Hedges. For reasons I've now long forgotten, I tape recorded that conversation as we looked at each other’s prints and talked photography. Now, some 28 years later as I look back on that evening, I'm fascinated how the seeds of what eventually blossomed as LensWork — and my personal philosophy of photography — were manifest even in this early conversation. Here, just for fun, is an excerpt of that evening's conversation from three decades ago." ~ Brooks Jensen

Interview with Peter Elliott

In 2002, we interviewed Peter Elliott about his project and book, Home Front. We included a typed transcription of the interview in LensWork #44 — long before we began using such interviews as audio media with the launch of LensWork Extended with issue #57. This is the first time the original audio interview has been made available.
